Secretary's Report

This month will be a critical one in the furthering of a positive image for both our society and our sport. With this in mind I would like to encourage every member to attend the CRD series of meetings on April 6th and 7th. These meetings will be the last opportunity for public discussion on the future “Master Plan”. The steps will be as follows:

  • DRAFT PLAN- Jan 1999, PUBLIC MEETINGS- March and April 1999,
  • FORWARD MASTER PLAN TO GOVERNMENT FOR COMMENT- March and April 1999,
  • FORWARD MASTER PLAN TO CRD PARKS COMMITTEE- Oct 1999,
  • FORWARD MASTER PLAN TO CRD BOARD FOR ADOPTION- Oct 1999,
  • FORWARD MASTER PLAN TO MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT, LANDS AND PARKS FOR APPROVAL- Oct 1999.

As you can see after April there will be no further public discussion, and October will find us faced with a final plan. It is most important that we have our voices heard now. See the schedule for CRD meetings in the Upcoming Events section.

The other event that will further our image will be the April 17th Clean-up run and the Mid-Island Clean-up run to be scheduled in the fall. This event, whether we realize it or not- is now recognized by the public, and has gone a long way to getting our good name out there.

I hope all members will make the attendance of these two events a priority, that we will make a good showing, and have an impact.

Andrea deLange

Island Rock Cleaners?

About 20 members of the Island Rock Crawlers 4x4 Club, including Rob Brooks and Wayne Foster, were joined by members of the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society and the VMC in cleaning up the Boneyard Main logging road area.

The clean up netted about four tonnes of scrap metal, three truckloads of appliances and about 20 yards of trash. Sooke Disposal hauled and dumped the refuse as a donation to the cause.
